Rebecca Park will present History Alive! character Colonel Ruby Bradley to WVU retired faculty and staff on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m. This is a hybrid program - live at Schoenbaum Center Charleston and via Zoom. A Q&A session will follow. All members of the community are welcome to attend, but must register for either the in-person event or the virtual Zoom presentation by Tuesday, Nov. 30. This program is co-sponsored by the WVU Committee of Retired Faculty and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at WVU, Morgantown.
Colonel Ruby Bradley was a trailblazing U.S. Army nurse and veteran of World War II and Korea. When Bradley retired from the U.S. Army in 1963 she was the most decorated woman in American military history. A native of Spencer, West Virginia, Bradley was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines in 1941 and was a POW until 1945. She continued her work as a nurse in the prison camp. She was named Chief Nurse for the Eighth Army in 1951 and supervised over 500 nurses in Korea. Bradley attained the rank of Colonel in 1958.
