Mammary Fat of Lean and Obese Women with Breast Cancer

Linda Vona-Davis, PhD in the WVU Department of Surgery and member of the WVU Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Research Program, presented a poster at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research held in Atlanta on March 29- April 3, 2019. The title of the poster was “Molecular profile of tumor-associated adipose in women with breast cancer”. Contributing authors were Niel Infante and James Coad from West Virginia University, Don Primerano and James Denvir from Marshall University. Briefly, the fat tissue close to malignant lesions exhibited distinctive gene expression profiles and functional characteristics between lean and obese women with breast cancer. The results of the study will help provide clues about the link between obesity and adverse breast cancer risk and outcome.
