WVU Medicine offering telemedicine appointments at Summersville Regional Medical Center
WVU Medicine providers from five specialties – Cardiology, Dermatology, Nephrology, Pain Management, and Thoracic Surgery – are offering telemedicine appointments at Summersville Regional Medical Center.
“We are so excited to bring this much-needed specialty care to the people of Nicholas County,” Karen Bowling, president and CEO of Summersville Regional Medical Center, said. “While some of our patients may have to drive to Morgantown for procedures or specialized testing, they can receive their outpatient and follow-up care right here at home.”
Clinic-based appointments connect the patient and a Morgantown-based specialist using special audio and video equipment. This method allows two-way, real time interactive communication. Any questions patients might have about their condition or treatment options can be discussed during the telemedicine visit, just like an in-person visit.
Community providers also use telemedicine services to discuss a patient’s case and plan care. Collaboration and cooperation keeps the patient’s medical team informed and involved, resulting in an increase in care continuity and a decrease in required travel for the patient.
WVU Medicine providers holding telemedicine appointments at Summersville Regional Medical Center include:
- Dermatologist Michael Kolodney, MD, PhD, for medical dermatology appointments only;
- Nephrologists Bethany Pellegrino, MD, and Rebecca Schmidt, DO;
- WVU Heart and Vascular Institute cardiologists Christopher Bianco, DO, Anthony Morise, MD, and George Sokos, DO, and Christopher Burgan, advanced practice provider in thoracic surgery; and
- WVU Medicine Center for Integrative Pain Management specialist Richard Vaglienti, MD, MBA.
Plans are in the works to add telemedicine appointments with specialists from Neurology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology in the coming weeks and months.
All telemedicine appointments will be conducted in Suite 204 on the second floor of the Ambulatory Care Center at 400 Fairview Heights Rd., behind Summersville Regional Medical Center.
