What does a typical day in the life of a Pediatric Radiologist include?
Pediatric radiology is very interesting because our day can vary from reading a variety of modalities to performing procedures in fluoroscopy. Referring health care providers often have questions about interpretations and also which kind of imaging to order. Interacting with patients and their families/caretakers is another component to the day of a pediatric radiologist. We also work with our technologists, nurses, and child life specialists to ensure the best care is provided.
What is the biggest challenge of being a Pediatric Radiologist?
There is so much to know from understanding pathologies and their varied presentations to determining how best to analyze what is happening while weighing various risks and benefits.
How do you foresee Pediatric Radiology changing over the next 20 years?
We will continue to improve technologies that assist in obtaining images with less radiation and utilize AI as an adjunct tool to help with triage and making findings.
What advice would you give a student who is considering a Pediatric Radiology residency?
Learn as much as you can about all of medicine, try some research, and spend time with people in the field.
