About Us
Message from the program director:
West Virginians have a sense of pride and a desire to give back to their communities. At WVU, we are building the clinical infrastructure and creating the workforce that will care for our aging population. Since I arrived in 2014, the number of clinical services we have developed has grown tremendously, making it possible for patients to get treated in West Virginia (i.e., they don’t have to go out of state for treatment).
We have also been improving the educational offerings and research capabilities of our department. I have tremendous support from our leadership to keep our program growing. Students who come here will be involved in developing new clinical services and will learn from a wealth of experiences gained from our can-do attitude.
The work we do here will also influence STEM education in the state. Not only are we caring for cancer patients, but we are also improving the lives of all West Virginians by reaching out to the next generation of healthcare professionals, encouraging young minds to enter a field that they would never have considered on their own, and bolstering their confidence to take the next step in pursuing a rewarding career. Residents that come here would be mentored, not only in the skills and knowledge of our profession, but also in that sense of mission that not only in the skills and knowledge of our profession, but also in that sense of mission that motivates us to do our best for our patients and our communities.
