Ambulatory VP: Employee resilience key to rebound

Despite seeing WVU Medicine Morgantown-area clinic visits plummet in April because of the pandemic, the enterprise has slowly bounced back to near-normal numbers and, in fact, 2020 clinic visits – which include virtual visits -- are up 7.69 percent from last year (see chart below).

More than the numbers, Darin Rogers, WVU Medicine’s vice president of provider network services, and vice president and chief ambulatory operations officer for WVU Hospitals in Morgantown, takes great pride in the resilience of WVU Medicine employees.

“The virus slowed down our operations for six weeks but we’ve come back and we’re really back in business now,” he said. “That’s a credit to our folks in the clinics, who have been balancing keeping staff and patients safe while still seeing a tremendous amount of patients and providing our services to meet the pent-up demand.”

Our Morgantown-area outpatient locations include:

Morgantown

  • Cheat Lake
  • Cranberry Square
  • Morgantown South
  • Physician Office Center
  • Suncrest Towne Centre
  • University Town Centre

Fairmont

  • Fairmont Gateway
  • Marion Medical Associates

Other

“We’re still doing virtual visits to some extent and are bringing folks back in to the clinics,” Rogers said. “We’re doing all the right protocols and protecting patients and staff. The staff at the clinics have been incredibly agile and the reason our volumes are going back up is a testament to their hard work and ability to adapt.”
