Beckley Campus students engage in unique learning opportunities on campus, in the community
Students at the WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus have recently engaged in unique learning opportunities on campus and in the community.
Junior nursing students in Med-Surg participated in a flipped classroom experiment that transformed traditional lecture content into active learning. After reviewing prerecorded lectures, students engaged in hands-on activities including a pathophysiology flash-card matching exercise where they created infographics, a lively review bingo game covering key labs and medications, and an escape room centered on caring for a Type I diabetic patient.

The escape room combined interactive LMS quizzes, short videos, and clinical decision-making with fun challenges like miming out of a box, water-bottle flipping, and deciphering a doctor’s handwriting before celebrating with the "We Are the Champions" song.

"Post-activity surveys revealed student enthusiasm, reaffirming the value of creative, interactive teaching strategies to enhance engagement and retention," said lecturer Kelley Coleman.
