WVU School of Nursing to host PBS documentary screening of “Picture Proof,” highlighting the impact of addiction

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The WVU School of Nursing will host a free screening of the PBS documentary “Picture Proof” on Monday, Dec. 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Okey Patteson Auditorium at the WVU Health Sciences Center.

The documentary examines the intergenerational impact of addiction by chronicling the life of a woman from southern West Virginia who is struggling to live a life of sobriety.

Sydney Wiley, a clinical lecturer in the Family and Community Health Department, organized the documentary screening at HSC after being impacted by its message.

“I found it very relevant to the current healthcare landscape in West Virginia,” Wiley said. “It really captures active addition, relapse and recovery very well, so I thought it would be beneficial for faculty and students to watch to further understand substance use disorder.”

The WVU Health Sciences community is invited to attend the free screening. The event will also feature a special guest speaker.

This nursing continuing profession development is being provided by the West Virginia University School of Nursing (WVU SON) for 2.25 contact hours. The WVU SON is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
