WVU SOM professor receives national recognition for career dedicated to orthopaedic research

Bingyun Li, Ph.D., professor for the West Virginia University School of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedics, recently received national recognition for his decades-long career dedicated to orthopaedic research.

Dr. Li was inducted into the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies (ICORS) College of Fellows in October. He formally received his designation as a Fellow of International Orthopaedic Research (FIOR) during an induction ceremony held at the 2025 ICORS World Congress of Orthopaedic Research in Adelaide, Australia, on October 8-11.

FIOR designation is awarded through a highly competitive and selective process and is considered one of the highest international honors in the field of orthopaedic research. Fellowships are voted on by ICORS and its ten global delegate orthopaedic societies every three years to recognize physician-scientists with more than 15 years of experience who have made significant contributions to the field of orthopaedic research.

This marks the second major distinction Li has received during his two-decade-long tenure at the School of Medicine. In 2018, Li was elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows in recognition of his outstanding contributions and leadership in the field of medical and biological engineering.

Li has been a member of the WVU School of Medicine faculty since 2005. His research focuses on infection, drug discovery and delivery, advanced materials and nanotechnology. Throughout his career, he has published 121 peer-reviewed papers and mentored more than 100 students.
