Simmons honored for her leadership by West Virginia Health Information Management Association
Ashley Simmons, MBA, an assistant professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine’s Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) program, has been honored with the West Virginia Health Information Management Association’s (WVHIMA) Presidential Plaque.
The award recognizes Simmons’ outstanding leadership as the 2024-2025 WVHIMA president and was awarded at the organization’s annual convention.
“Being recognized with this award was really a meaningful full-circle moment for me,” Simmons said. “It reminded me of all the mentors who guided me and the experiences I’ve had that shaped my journey. Their support and everything I’ve learned along the way truly helped me grow into the professional I am today.”
As a testament to her leadership, Simmons has been re-elected as WVHIMA president for 2025-2026. WVHIMA follows a formal election process that includes nominations and all members having the opportunity to vote.
