  1. Why are you interested in becoming a Physical Therapist?
I first became interested in becoming  a Physical Therapist when I experienced the profession as a patient. I played a  lot of sports growing up, and went through 4 bouts of physical therapy before  graduating high school. As I learned more about the profession, it began to  match my medical tendencies and athletic nature. The Physical Therapy  profession gave me an outlet to help other people feel better, move better, and  have a higher quality of life.
  2. What made you select WVU for your DPT degree?
I chose WVU for my degree partly  because I received a quality undergraduate degree here at WVU. For 4 years, I  experienced the atmosphere of WVU, the excellence of their programs, and the  distinction of the faculty. As I began to research various Physical Therapy education  programs to apply to, WVU stood out to me as having a great reputation as a  quality program, producing outstanding clinicians after graduation.
  3. What defines a quality Physical Therapy education?
A quality Physical Therapy education  stems from the faculty. The professors must care for their students by pushing  students to be the best clinicians possible. This comes through providing the  most current and evidence-based information in lectures and ensuring that  students receive an adequate amount of quality experience in the clinic under  caring and knowledgeable clinical instructors. The faculty must also show compassion  for the student as a whole person, not just as a student.
  4. What is your favorite aspect of the WVU PT program?
My favorite aspect of the WVU PT  program is the great opportunities for learning experience, from the clinical  rotation sites to the knowledgeable faculty. Another one of my favorite aspects  is the close, family-like environment with my classmates. It is encouraging to  know that everyone has the same interests as you and is going through the same  hardships and the same joys.
  5. What is your favorite thing to do outside of class?
I love to spend time outdoors with  family, friends, and my fiancé. I enjoy running, kayaking, cycling, swimming,  and hiking. If I can’t be outdoors, I enjoy reading a good book.
  6. Where do you see yourself professionally in 5-10 years?
I see myself working in a clinic in  5-10 years, doing more patient-centered care than administrative work. As of  right now, I enjoy all aspects of Physical Therapy and have not decided on a  specialty or area of practice. I do not see myself in academics, but I would  love to a clinical instructor in the future.
  7. What advice would you give to someone who is considering  Physical Therapy school?
For someone considering Physical Therapy school, I would tell them to be  dedicated to their work. There are many hours put into the lab and into  studying that requires a large commitment of time and attention. However, I  would also advise balancing school with things you enjoy doing to help manage  the stress of the workload. Most of all, I think you should love what you do  because it makes the journey more enjoyable.
