Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences welcomes new cornea specialist Lena Chen

Lena Chen, M.D., joins the West Virginia University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences as an assistant professor.

A Brooklyn, New York native, Dr. Chen completed the Cornea Fellowship Program at West Virginia University in 2023. She completed the Ophthalmology Residency Program at the State University of New York Downstate in 2022, where she also earned her medical degree in 2018. Chen also completed an internal medicine internship at Northwell Staten Island University Hospital in 2019.

Chen specializes in the treatment of corneal infections, trauma, scarring and inflammation, as well as corneal diseases such as keratoconus, Fuchs’ dystrophy and dry eye disease. She also performs cataract surgeries, corneal transplants, pterygium excisions and corneal cross-linking procedures. She said she is excited to officially join the WVU Eye Institute faculty following her role as a fellow, and that she looks forward to continuing to provide treatment to patients in West Virginia.

“I am excited to officially join the WVU Eye Institute faculty, where the collective expertise and dedication the team displays for their patients are evident every day,” Chen said. “I look forward to collaborating with WVU’s dedicated healthcare professionals to contribute positively to the vision health of our community.”
