Nurse Navigator and E-visit programs launch

WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals is rolling out two new programs this summer – programs that will make it easier for employees to access care when they need it.

Starting Monday, July 10, employees will have the opportunity to use Nurse Navigators and E-visits to meet their healthcare needs. These resources, both free, should help the organization quickly assess the appropriate level of care for each patient, while, at the same time, reduce the number of unnecessary visits to the Emergency Department, Urgent Care, and other clinics.

“A healthy workforce is essential to our mission of providing the highest level of care,” said Kevin Halbritter, MD, vice president, population health. “As an organization, we need you to be at your best, at your healthiest, and so do our patients and their families. So when we have an opportunity to enhance the health of our employees, we jump at the chance.”

The Nurse Navigators will be available 24/7 at 1-855-WVU-CARE. They will answer questions and offer advice based on their experience. For more complex issues, the nurses will have access to medical references and other resources, as well as other providers. In addition to answering questions, Nurse Navigators will advise callers, as appropriate, to seek medical care; they can even schedule appointments. There may be times when they recommend an E-visit.

E-visits will be easily available through MyWVUChart for these conditions:

  • Back pain
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Heartburn
  • Red eye
  • Sinus issues
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Vaginal discharge.

Once you log in, just follow a guided questionnaire, providing information that will either be forwarded to your primary care provider or the first available provider based on your selection; the provider will assess the proper course of action. The response time on an E-visit will be no longer than six business hours if handled by your own provider. If the Urgent Care model is used, a response can be expected within three hours when the call occurs between 8 a.m. and midnight.

These new programs, which will be available to the public at a later date, were created to complement your WVU Medicine healthcare experience. The goal is to use the right care team members to provide the right services at the right time.
