WVU Medicine to build new hospital in Fairmont

On March 13, Gov. Jim Justice and WVU Medicine announced the construction of a new hospital in Fairmont. This decision comes in response to the announced closure of Fairmont Regional Medical Center earlier this month. The new facility, to be built on property WVU Medicine owns next to its clinic and urgent care facility on Stoney Road, will be completed in 18-24 months and will include 100 beds. Its estimated cost is $30-$50 million.

WVU Medicine will manage Fairmont Regional Medical Center and its emergency services during the construction. The facility will be closed for 30 days during the Certificate of Need process and to allow for the transfer of records.

All services will be transferred to the new WVU Medicine facility when construction is completed. The facility is expected to create 500 jobs.
