WVU School of Medicine recognizes Health Information Professionals Week April 17-21

The West Virginia University School of Medicine is taking part of a national celebration of health information professionals, acknowledging the critical contributions they make as part of the overall care team by promoting patient safety through ensuring correct and secure information.

Additionally, health information professionals contribute by analyzing data to facilitate decisions, improve patient outcomes, reduce expenses and designing measurement tools to optimize processes across all patient environments, from large health systems to private practices.

Students in the Health Informatics and Information Management program at the University receive education and hands-on training in a variety of settings, including more than 400 hours of professional practice experiences through clinical partners, including WVU Medicine.

The program is designed for students who want to work behind the scenes in healthcare, and is offered in the HyFlex format, giving students flexibility to learn how they feel best from day-to-day.

The week of recognition was established by the American Health Information Management Association.
