Congratulations on your recent acceptance into the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine (SoM) Class of 2029!

Below is information on how to hold your seat in the Class of 2029 and pre-matriculation tasks that you can begin working on now. In April you will be given access to SOLE (our Learning Management System) and the “MS 101: The Doctor Is In” module that will outline all the tasks you must complete before matriculation.

Important Dates

  • 2 weeks from acceptance: SS# and Functional Technical Standards signature page are due
  • 2 weeks from being granted access to the WVU Portal: $100 tuition deposit due
  • April 30, 2025: Accepted students holding multiple acceptances, must choose one school; last day to receive a refund on deposit
  • May 1, 2025: MD/PhD students choose to Commit to Enroll (CTE) for the WVU School of Medicine in the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School Tool
  • May 31, 2025: MD students, including Early Decision students, must choose to Commit to Enroll (CTE) for the WVU School of Medicine in the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School Tool

Commit to Enroll (CTE)

  • Applicants can start selecting CTE as early as April 30, 2025
  • We do not require students to Plan to Enroll (PTE). Students who select PTE will still be required to select CTE by the stated deadlines
  • Our CTE deadlines have been determined by the release dates of pre-matriculation events and assignments
  • Select CTE through the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School Tool

Nield's Notes

Dr. Nield will communicate with all accepted students through her monthly newsletter "Nield's Notes" starting in November. This newsletter will keep accepted students up-to-date on pre-matriculation tasks and announcements. You can find all current and archived newsletters from the current admissions cycle here.

Pre-Matriculation Tasks

These are the tasks that can be started before April 2025. An updated and complete pre-matriculation checklist will be available to you on SOLE via The Doctor Is In course. You will be granted access to this onboarding course in April 2025.

  • Submit your SS# via the secure online form
  • Sign and upload the Functional Technical Standards form to your applicant portal checklist
  • Pay the $100 tuition deposit invoice: Within one month (possibly sooner) after submitting your social security number, you will receive login information for the WVU Portal. You may pay your deposit invoice through this portal using STAR
  • Complete the FAFSA using code 003827, even if you are not planning on taking out a loan. You will not be eligible for scholarships without filling out the FAFSA
  • Make an appointment to get your Hep B Titer drawn now (if you have never had a positive titer)
  • Review the WVU SoM Health Packet
    • Request a Criminal Background Check through PreCheck
    • Upload Documents to SentryMD
      • Health Information Form
      • Physical Examination Form: Must be completed after February 1, 2025
      • Immunization Form: PPD must be placed after June 1, 2025

Failure to complete any pre-matriculation task will prevent you from seeing patients on the first day of class and can adversely affect your grades.

WVU Health Sciences Center Student Computer Program

Every first-year medical student is required to buy a MacBook Air for medical school. This personal computer will give you access to required computer resources to assist you in your studies, including software, on-site computer support, and access to the internet and resources within the University.

  • Please keep this in mind before purchasing a new laptop this year. You must use the laptop purchased through the school to take your exams
  • Once you have access to the Doctor Is In, you’ll need to review the Class of 2029 Laptop Information, sign the agreement, and schedule your laptop pick-up
  • Your one-time laptop purchase price will be added to your fall semester bill. The total cost will not be available until April 2025
  • Laptop pickup will begin in July about a week before Professional and Career Development Week

Campus Assignment

We are confident that you will love your assigned campus! However, if you have questions about how to switch campuses, please refer to the Campus Selection and Change Policy. Switching campuses can only be done after matriculation.
