About Us

The WVU Positive Health Clinic (WVUPHC) is a Ryan White Part C (Early Intervention Services) and Part D (Women of all ages and Youth ages 18-24 years old) funded clinic that provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive, primary HIV care services to HIV positive patients in the northern 33 counties of north-central, eastern West Virginia (a mountainous region that lies completely within Appalachia) and regions of adjacent states. We provide services to a largely rural, impoverished, medically underserved area where access to care is limited. This ambulatory HIV clinic is a subspecialty clinic of the Section of Infectious Diseases, in the Department of Medicine. In addition to the services offered at the Physician Office Center in Morgantown, the program includes a satellite clinic in Glen Dale, WV (the Northern Panhandle of the state) and supervision of care that is provided to HIV positive patients Shenandoah Valley Medical System in Martinsburg, WV (the Eastern Panhandle of the state).

The WVUPHC has on staff, a Program Director, an Associate Director, 12 Infectious Diseases Physicians (8 Faculty and 4 Fellows), a Psychiatrist, a Licensed Pharmacist, a Clinical Coordinator/Nurse Educator, a Medical Assistant, and a Financial Counselor. In addition, we make referrals for services to 2 Medical Case Managers from Ryan White Part B as well as a Mental Health Therapist for cognitive-behavioral therapy. Our program also proudly acknowledges the WVUPHC Consumer Advisory Board (CAB). The CAB is a partnership between the clinic and the consumers it serves. The purpose of the Advisory Board is to improve the manner in which care is delivered, by providing the leadership at the WVU PHC with the perspectives of persons living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

The WVU Positive Health Clinic staff work to provide a comprehensive, "one stop shopping" approach to the treatment of HIV/AIDS. We understand that HIV/AIDS affects more than just the physical aspects of the patient. The diagnosis of HIV/AIDS can affect a patient's finances, housing, family, social relationships and access to health care. We work to continuously improve our services to meet the patient's vast range of needs.
