Bert Bradford Surgery Award

Given to the most outstanding student in Surgery rotations on the Charleston campus.

The Bert Bradford Award was established in 1993 in honor of Bert Bradford, Jr., MD. , the founder of "education" at Charleston Area Medical Center and Charleston Division of the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

Bert Bradford, was the first Chief of Surgery and Surgical Program Director at Charleston Memorial, now Charleston Area Medical Center – Memorial Division. He was a native West Virginian, a lifelong surgeon educator, and master of community philanthropy. He quietly and repeatedly gave of himself, his time and his resources. His commitment to education, persistence, good judgment and joyful heart immeasurably enriched the fabric of the surgical community and life of West Virginia's citizens.
