Message from the Program Director

Welcome to the WVU Eastern Internal Medicine Residency!

Having been an internal medicine doctor for more than twenty years, I consider it the opportunity of a lifetime to be the founding program director of the WVU School of Medicine Eastern Internal Medicine Residency Program. I returned to my hometown of Martinsburg in 2006 after completing my internal medicine-pediatrics residency at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. I worked in a traditional private practice from 2006-2015 and began working with medical students by mentoring and teaching them in clinical and hospital settings. I joined the WVU School of Medicine faculty in 2015 and have proudly worked for my alma mater ever since.

Martinsburg maintains a small-town feeling while also being a growing and thriving community. The residency program plays a key role in meeting the needs of our population, both in the hospital and our outpatient clinics. Patients will be excited to meet you and happy you have decided to continue your training in West Virginia.

I have a deep interest in caring for our citizens and educating the next generation of internal medicine physicians. Our faculty come from all over the world and possess a love for medicine and a desire to share that passion with medical trainees.

The need for internal medicine doctors is immense and part of our motivation is to “grow our own” talented team. The Eastern Campus is a friendly place where residents will build great relationships with their fellow healthcare workers. We believe in the importance of personal relationships and a sense of place, as many of us on campus have deep ties to the culture and heritage of West Virginia. We look forward to welcoming you aboard and know you will add your unique perspective to our program.

Our faculty are world-class in their knowledge and commitment to resident education. On our campus, residents receive a highly personalized education, working side-by-side with our attending physicians. Your professional growth is our highest priority, and we have the patience, experience and faculty to set you on the path of an amazing career in internal medicine. By being a new program, we have seized the opportunity to innovate and be creative. Our four unique signature programs offer a special addition to your career development that you will not find in any other residency.

Our community is a great place to live with many recreation opportunities nearby including the C&O Canal, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Appalachian Trail and several wineries in Loudoun County, Va. We are a 30-minutes from Frederick, Md., and an hour from Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Md. Three international airports (Dulles, Reagan, and BWI) are within an hour of the Berkley Medical Center.

If you are interested in starting an exciting career in internal medicine, look no further than the WVU Internal Medicine Residency at the School of Medicine's Eastern Campus. We invite you to come and be a part of something special in Martinsburg. You may find that country roads take you home to a place where you belong.
