Students will earn several benefits to being a MATTER student, such as:

• securing a position in a residency program at WVU early
• working with a specialty advisor to plan and prepare for career interests and goals
• reducing debt by reducing tuition costs
• transition into a residency program with more efficiency (e.g., no interviews or travel costs) and expediency

Benefits to West Virginia

MATTER will require exceptional students who have committed to a WVU residency specialty to acquire and demonstrate proficiency in all of the WVU School of Medicine Outcomes for being a competent physician.  With support from advisors and educators, MATTER presents an efficient pathway to residency education. This accelerated curriculum will help us address student debt by minimizing the cost of medical education without losing academic quality, transition medical students into a residency program with more expediency, and attract talented students who may ultimately become physicians serving the needs of our citizens and communities.
