Is there a particular population of students (e.g., ethnicity, spiritual, sexual orientation) that you would particularly like to advise?
No preference.
What does a typical day in the life of an anesthesiologist include?
Oversight of CRNA's/residents and hands-on provision of anesthesia care including induction, maintenance, and emergence.
What is the biggest challenge of being an anesthesiologist?
Balancing your time while supervising more than one anesthetic concurrently and assisting with emergency care when needed.
How do you foresee anesthesiology changing over the next 20 years?
CRNAs are organizing more independence from physicians oversight and the age of physician work force is increasing. This may lead to a provider shortage over the next decade.
What advice would you give a student who is considering a residency in your specialty?
Come shadow a provider and gain some insight and experience in our field. Be sure you can get up early and juggle several patient encounters at one time.
