Is there a particular population of students (e.g., ethnicity, spiritual, sexual orientation) that you would particularly like to advise?

I love advising all different types of students and am passionate about helping students from underserved backgrounds.

What does a typical day in the life of a MFM include?

No two days are the same, I may be seeing high risk obstetric patients that are hospitalized or in the outpatient setting; I may be doing fetal ultrasounds or procedures; I could be delivering babies; or I could be working on teaching, research, or administrative activities. I am also a wife and mother and am committed to my family.

What is the biggest challenge of being a MFM?

Caring for both the mother and fetus at the same time. I always have at least two patients and have to balance their needs.

How do you foresee MFM changing over the next 20 years?

There will be ongoing improvement in our fetal imaging techniques, which may open the door to more in utero interventions.

What advice would you give a student who is considering an OB/GYN residency?

Know who you are and what is important to you. It will allow you to pick a specialty you will love and shape a career that is satisfying.
