Health Profession Scholarship Program students, military veterans, Veterans of Foreign wars, those considering a military healthcare career, those considering Anesthesiology as a career.

What does a typical day in the life of an anesthesiologist include?

The answer to this question is as variable as the items that could be placed in the anesthesiologist’s day. Future military careers can cause anxiety, excitement and nearly every emotion in between. Veterans experiences for the most part are positive, with a few rare exceptions. These students can clearly benefit from someone to confide in or ask for advice.

What advice would you give a student who is considering a anesthesiology residency?

First and foremost, rotate on anesthesia early in the fourth year so that one may gain exposure before making residency decisions. Second, anesthesiology selects for a personality type that likes to make quick and potentially life altering decisions. It is a cerebral field, but requires calm nerves.
