Is there a particular population of students (e.g., ethnicity, spiritual, sexual orientation) that you would particularly like to advise?

  • Happy to help any student, however as a prior Navy Physician and HPSP Recipient, I may be of particular benefit to our military members.

What does a typical day in the life of a Family Medicine Physician include?

  • Clinic Days- 8a-5p, Patient Care, teaching students/residents, working on research, and overseeing the Morgantown MS3 Clerkship. The distribution of these responsibilities depends on the day.
  • Inpatient Days- 8a-4p, with at home call on remaining hours for those patients admitted to the Family Medicine Service

What is the biggest challenge of being a Family Medicine Physician?

  • The breadth of knowledge that is required.

How do you foresee Family Medicine changing over the next 20 years?

  • I think the value of the Family Medicine is going to become more apparent over the next 20 years.

What advice would you give a student who is considering a Family Medicine residency?

  • Find the specialty/residency where you feel like you fit in- you are going to be spending a lot of time with these people. You can really shape your family medicine practice to be what you want- mainly adults/kids, inpatient/outpatient, procedures/no procedures, etc.
