What does a typical day in the life of an Anesthesiologist include? Tailoring the anesthetic to the unique medical needs of the patient.
This includes performing procedures (e.g., endotracheal intubation, arterial line, central line, spinal/epidural, peripheral block) so that the patient can undergo safe anesthesia and surgery.
What is the biggest challenge of being an Anesthesiologist?
Being able to adapt and provide a safe anesthetic.
How do you foresee Anesthesiology changing over the next 20 year
Anesthesia will become more automated with the increasing use of smart technology. Even with the use of more automation, the Anesthesiologist will be at the forefront of the profession.
What advice would you give a student who is considering an Anesthesiology residency?
Complete an Anesthesiology rotation early in medical school so that you know this is what you would like to do. Talk with Anesthesiologists about the pros and cons of the profession. Consider doing a research project in anesthesia.
