Program Design

The fellow will participate in a one-year period of training, which includes 12 months of breast-specific rotations. The majority of the year will be spent completing weekly rotations within breast radiology, which include image-guided breast biopsies and localizations, interpreting diagnostic exams, and breast MRI. The fellow will gain experience reading screening mammograms on all breast imaging rotations. The fellow will also participate in a two-week multidisciplinary rotation including breast surgery, medical oncology, and pathology. Other subspecialties may be included in this multidisciplinary rotation at the interest of the fellow, including Genetics, Radiation Oncology, and Plastic Surgery.

Our fellowship is structured according to the most recent (2021) ACR/SBI Fellowship Curriculum Guidelines. Our fellowship participates in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Consortium, which provides the fellow with a weekly didactic lecture on Wednesdays at noon, as well as quarterly journal clubs. The fellow will also participate in a monthly journal club with the breast imaging faculty.

Moonlighting opportunities are available however are not mandatory. The fellow does not have any call obligations.

The fellow is expected to prepare and present at weekly breast multidisciplinary conference, and to present at several resident noon conferences per year. The fellow will present at the Breast Imaging Consortium Journal Club, if our program is assigned. There are also opportunities for the fellow to deliver educational presentations to medical students.  Completion of a mandatory academic project and quality-improvement project is expected of the fellow. The fellow is given one-half day of academic time per week to aid in the completion of these expectations.

There is an educational fund of $1,500 per year, and a $1,500 stipend to attend a conference or review course. The fellow is given 5 days per year to be used to attend conferences.
