Master of Science (MS)

The Master of Science (MS) in medical laboratory science (MLS) provides the opportunity for college graduates with bachelor's degrees unrelated to the field to enter the profession, and offers strong preparation for immediate employment or further postgraduate study. As part of the curriculum, students receive extensive practical experience working in laboratories of affiliated clinical sites, including WVU Medicine locations.

The program is based at the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center and consists of lectures, student laboratory instruction, and clinical experience at one of the program’s affiliated laboratories.

While granting of the Master of Science (MS) degree is not contingent on passing any external certification or licensure examination, the MLS program also prepares graduates to sit for the national certification examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC).
