17th annual Heather Miller Golf Tournament continues making a difference
WHEELING, W.Va. — The 17th annual Heather Miller Golf Tournament was recently held at Oglebay Crispin Golf Center.
The golf tournament is a fundraiser for the Heather Miller Scholarship Foundation. It honors Heather Miller, a WVU School of Nursing student who died in a 2008 car crash.
The scholarship foundation supports aspiring nursing students who want to go to WVU or another nursing program. The scholarships range from $500-$1,500.
Money raised also goes to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE).
The event welcomed 42 teams and hole sponsorships were available for individuals and corporations to donate to the organization. Donors came from areas like Wheeling, Pittsburgh and Columbus. One major sponsor for the tournament is WVU Medicine.
The event not only offered the golf tournament, but they held 50/50 raffles for the public, a book signing from Robert Horsey, author of “Gifted: The Docuseries,” and CORE was onsite to sign up organ donors. Heather Miller was featured in the first episode of the Gifted docuseries.
This event not only raises money, but it raises awareness for the importance of organ donations. Heather Miller saved lives with her organ donation, and they want others to know they can too.
