26th Annual Julie Betschart Research Symposium
Graduate student presentation winners
The 26th annual Julie Betschart Research Symposium was held on Thursday, 4 April 2024. The research symposium is in tribute to Julie, a graduate student whom we lost to cancer in 1997. The event is a showcase of scientific presentations by our graduate students in the Cellular and Integrative Physiology program. Participating this year were:

- Ben Menarchek– "Is the Homeostatic Response to Sleep Loss Impaired in an Autism-Related Mouse Model?" (Mentor: Michelle Bridi)
- Beethi Sinha– “Exploring the impact of Prosthetic Joint Infection on Osteolysis” (Mentor: Matthew Deitz)
- Elaina Aerts– "Kiss1R Through Pubertal Development in the Ewe" (Mentor: Stan Hileman)
- Heather Connery– “Characterizing Histamine-3 Receptor Actions on Cardiac Fibroblasts” (Mentor: Scott Levick)
- Subhanki Pal– “mtDNA Release Serves as a Potential Mediator of Doxorubicin Induced Cardiotoxicity” (Mentor: Venkatesh Sundararajan)
- Teresa Gluth– “Protective Role of Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitor, Febuxostat, in Generational Reproductive Outcomes Following Gestational Inhalation of Nano-TiO2” (Mentor: Elizabeth Bowdridge)
This year’s winners were: 1st place - Subhanki Pal, 2nd place - Elaina Aerts, 3rd place - Heather Connery. Following the presentations, a reception was held and our keynote speaker, Dr. Heather Patisaul provided her lecture entitled: “Endocrine Disruption and Developmental Neurotoxicity: Linking Exposure to Disease”.
