Accessible Forklift to be Featured at AOTA Inventor Showcase

Father of WVU OT alumni, Jacob Greenfield, MOT, OTR/L, is set to take the virtual stage in the upcoming AOTA Inventors Showcase on June 14, 2022. “Doc” Greenfield began the invention process of the MR-1000FORKLIFT in 2014 and now has a working prototype which he is excited to share with the world! 

The MR-1000FORKLIFT, pictured above with co-owner Dean Olak, is not your typical forklift. It's unique design allows it to be operated by individuals who rely on wheeled mobility due to various deficits and limitations. Operators will be able to control all features of the forklift through a high-grade video feed and controls that are easily accessible while seated. Typical forklifts require the operator to climb up into the control cabin, but the MR-1000FORKLIFT includes a ramp for increased accessibility.

Currently, the MR-1000FORKLIFT is the first forklift of its kind to be invented with the goal of being the first to enter the work industry. The inventors and business partners of the MR-1000FORKLIFT hope to change the stigma around the word “disability” and help individuals return to the workforce regardless of physical abilities.

When asked what prompted Doc to take on this invention process, he told us he was challenged by a prior student who noted an individual with physical limitations and told him “Mr. G he would never be able to operate our forklift.” He took that statement and began the process to invent a forklift that would be wheelchair compatible.
