Alumni Spotlight: Nick Nuzzo, OTR/L, ATP
Graduates of the WVU Division of Occupational Therapy have the opportunity to pursue a variety of specializations. Nick Nuzzo, OTR/L, ATP, initially began providing OT in skilled nursing facilities in Ohio. Shortly into his career, he stepped into a leadership role as the Director of Rehabilitation. As the Director of Rehabilitation, Nuzzo began navigating state and federal guidelines to advocate for complex medical equipment for the residents of his facility.
As an occupational therapist, Nuzzo understood that mobility impairments impacted his client's functioning, and often recommended custom wheelchair and seating systems. Nuzzo had found his passion, and in 2021 Nuzzo earned the Assistive Technology Professional credential.
According to the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), the ATP certification "recognizes demonstrated competence in analyzing the needs of consumers with disabilities, assisting in the selection of appropriate assistive technology for the consumers' needs, and providing training in the use of the selected devices."
Since earning the ATP credential, Nuzzo now serves clients in outpatient, inpatient, home health, and long-term care throughout the Cincinnati area, serving as an account executive with Sonshine Medical.
Keep up the great work, Nick. Let's Go Mountaineers!
