Gatewood recognized as outstanding alumni
WVU Divison of Occuapational Therapy alumni, Ashley Gatewood presented "Occupational Therapy’s Role In Technology and Industry: Bridging the Gap" in the AOTA Continuing Education Virtual Conference Presentation. With the increase in the use of technology in the application of rehabilitation as an intervention, as well as to increase access and improve quality of life, there are increasing opportunities for occupational therapists (OTs) to work in nontraditional roles in the rehabilitation technology industry. OTs are poised to serve as product designers, developers, and educators and as experts in client-centered practice, person-environment fit, and understanding of clinical conditions.
Ashley (Hickman) Gatewood is an alumni of the WVU Division of OT, class of 2013. Since her graduation, she has worked at Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Hospital, Neofect USA, and Heaven Sent Home Care. Her clinical areas of specialization include neuro rehabilitation specifically stroke and advance technology. She has presented at the American Occupational Therapy Association conferences, guest lectured for the WVU OT students, written clinical blogs for medical device companies along with doing product development. She will be embarking on furthering her education to work on her PhD to pursue a career in teaching.
Thanks for representing WVU, Ashley! We're proud of your accomplishments!
