Butina selected for HERS Leadership Institute

Michelle Butina, Ph.D., MLS (ASCP)^CM, associate professor, vice chair of the Laboratory Sciences division and Medical Laboratory Science program director, was recently selected to participate in the HERS (Higher Education Resource Service) Leadership Institute.

The program, which consists of four immersion weekends throughout the 2022 - 2023 academic year, focuses on leadership development for women in higher education. Dr. Butina, along with 68 other higher education leaders across the country, will participate in the program.

“It is an honor to be selected for an executive leadership program, especially this year as HERS celebrates 50 years of developing a diverse community of women leaders in higher education,” said Butina.

Throughout the immersion weekends, participates will share their vision of leadership and what they hope to contribute to their respective institutions. They will then be challenged to develop the skills to actualize their professional vision.

“My fellow HERS participants are leaders in various roles throughout academia and represent a variety of higher education institutions,” said Butina “Our cohort is already building a supportive network which will grow to over 7,000 as an alumna of the HERS Leadership Institute.”

Founded in 1972, HERS has supported the career advancement of more than 7,000 women from over 1,200 institutions across the United States and around the world.

Butina received her bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem State University and her master’s degree from Michigan State University. She went on her to earn her doctorate degree from the University of Georgia.
