Community Service February-

Manna Meal - St John’s Episcopal Church, a local soup kitchen providing free meals to those in need. WVU MS3/MS4s and Faculty provide: (1) Blood Pressure screening and medical advice, 11:30 am – 1pm. (2) Meal prep, 9 am – 11am. Last Saturday of every month, or TBA. (3) Manna Meal garden, helpers always welcome, seasonal hours, TBA.

CHASM (Charleston Homeless and Street Medicine) Rounds meet every other Tuesday evening, 5:30 – 7pm.

WVU M3/M4s and Faculty provide Blood Pressure screening and medical advice at 3 local homeless shelters: Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center, Union Mission Mens’ Shelter, and YWCA Sojourners Women and Children’s Shelter. Charleston’s GQ Week will be March 9th (The week before the BIG WEEK)

The Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) will be open to our graduating Doctors on Valentine’s Day, February 14. AAMC will email you a unique link to the GQ. We can’t stress enough how important it is to complete the GQ, which gives us valuable information for our future. We are having GQ activities the week of March 9th including drawings for prizes and gifts. To make sure that you are eligible for the drawings, bring documentation (GQ confirmation email from AAMC) that you completed the GQ to the student services office. You will be eligible to win prizes (e.g., gift cards) as we draw names throughout the week. While your responses remain anonymous, we are able to monitor completion rates. (Detailed information about incentives will be emailed to you)

The WVU Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that the applications for its innovative Rural Scholars Program are now available. This program is designed for students committed to making rural/small town Family Medicine in West Virginia a career. Qualified MS III’s are eligible for a $10,000 stipend for their fourth year and facilitated admission to WVU’s Morgantown Family Medicine Residency. The Rural Scholars Program allows for an enhanced primary care experience in the 4th year curriculum as well as early integration into the residency experience.
