Ronald McDonald House Charities Donation Drive

Supporting local RMHC in Charleston and Huntington – supports the families of children admitted to the hospital, allowing them to remain within walking distance of their children when they need them the most. The list of donations are attached. Log your services hours in SOLE (1 hr/$10 worth of items). For more info, please email Christina Herrold Scarr cbherrold@mix.wvu.edu .

Organize a Coat Drive

All coats need to be collected in October, then sorted by gender and age of recipients and bagged and driven to the men’s shelters, Rea of Hope, Sojourners, Mountain Mission, and others who serve those in need in early November for free distribution.

Birthday in a Box
Help a child at Sojourners Shelter for homeless women and families have a happier birthday by providing the birthday cake! The EMUMC youth group is assembling Birthday Cake Kits (disposable baking pan, cake mix, can of frosting, candles, decorations, cards). Be part of the celebration by donating complete kits wrapped in clear plastic OR any of the contents at the EMUMC Drive- Through at the parking lot Sunday, October 24 from 5-6 pm. Yumm!

Heart and Hand Food Pantry and Covenant House Food Pantry

As Fall weather arrives, the pantries are requesting soup, Saltines, and evaporated milk. Thank you for placing items in the bins in the entryway of EMUMC, 108 Oakwood Rd, Charleston, WV Monday-Thursday (8:30 am-1 pm) or Sunday's (8:30 am-12 pm).

The Heart and Hand Thrift Shop in South Charleston needs volunteers to sort and process donations, test electronics, or organize books or clothing. If you can contribute 2-3 hours weekly, please contact Jenny or Vicki at 304-342-0029 or go to https://hhomwv.org and complete the online form.

PEDIATRICS RESIDENCY RURAL SCHOLARs APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED

If you hope to complete your pediatrics residency at WVU in Morgantown, consider applying to the Pediatrics Residency Rural Scholars Program. Benefits include a $10,000 stipend applied to your Year 4 tuition, your creation and implementation of a rural scholar’s project of your choice, IPad for your rural project data, guaranteed acceptance into the WVU Pediatrics Residency Program, and more. The AAMC website estimates that the average cost of travel for residency interviews can be as high as nearly $12,000. The earned and saved money is great, the completion of a scholarly project is fulfilling, and the peace of mind from knowing you have matched at your number one choice for residency is priceless. Established to help address the rising costs of obtaining a medical degree, this need-based scholarship will provide $10,000 awards to twenty (20) 3rd or 4th year students underrepresented in medicine who are enrolled in a US accredited (MD/DO) program for the 2021-2022 academic year. Applicants must demonstrate their financial need by submitting their Financial Aid information, Student Aid Report, and any other appropriate financial documents for consideration. Applicants must also comment on how this scholarship would help to relieve the burden of tuition and living expenses, as well as advance their professional development. 2021 Applications will be open from Monday, October 18, 2021 and will close on December 5, 2021 at 11:59pm Eastern Time.
