Dr. Joseph Wright named Gwendolyn Hogan Lectureship Diversity Day speaker
The Gwendolyn Hogan Lectureship Diversity Day presented by the West Virginia University School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics will be held on Wednesday, October 2, in the Family Resource Center in the Children’s Hospital.
Joseph Wright, M.D., MPH, will present at 8 a.m. and noon in two different lectures.
Dr. Wright is the chief health equity officer for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Wright also serves as an adjunct professor of Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine and Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University Schools of Medicine and Public Health.
At 8 a.m. during grand rounds, he will present “Health Equity: At the Nexus of Science and Social Justice,” that will teach participants to recognize the fallacy of race as a biologic proxy, identify inequities embedded in clinical practice guidelines, and define the pathway for moving from race-based to race-conscious medicine.
At the noon lectureship titled “Child Health Advocacy: Activating Your Voice,” participants will discuss basic and clinical aspects of a pediatric practice, utilize better methods to come to a specific diagnosis, and recognize various conventional and advanced techniques for treatment of children.
All faculty, staff, residents and students from the Departments of Pediatrics, Medicine, Neurology, Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine are invited to participate. Continuing Medical Education credit is available for qualified participants.
Virtual participants will now be able to log into grand rounds at http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/webcast.
