Dr. Vernon receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Michael Vernon, Ph.D., professor and former chair of WVU’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Society of Reproductive Biologists and Technologists (SRBT) annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas in October.

This award is given to a member in recognition of his or her scientific, academic and leadership contributions to Assisted Reproductive Technology (IVF). Dr. Vernon has practiced as an andrologist and embryologist for over 30 years with an extensive background in reproductive physiology and IVF.  He has published over 135 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters, and has given plenary lectures to scientific societies in the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America. In addition to his current position as a tenured professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he is also a member of the WVU Center for Reproductive Medicine.

The SRBT is an affiliate society of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), which was founded in 1944 initially as the American Society for the Study of Sterility and then the American Fertility Society (AFS). The SRBT promotes standards of excellence in basic and applied research and continues to pursue its mission to advance the professional development of scientists and laboratory specialists working in all disciplines of reproductive biology and applied assisted reproductive technologies (ART). It is composed of American and international human embryologists, andrologists and reproductive physiologists.
