Required COVID-19 Testing for Eastern Students – Fri., Aug. 14, and Sat., Aug. 15, 10:00am-4:00pm, at Berkeley Medical Center testing tent. The requirement applies to WVU M3’s and M4s, WVSOM Eastern M3s and WVSOM M4s currently on rotation at BMC/JMC (WVU M4s who will be on rotation in Charleston or Morgantown during the Eastern testing dates can receive testing on those campuses). Even if you have tested recently, this requirement still applies. The cost for testing will be covered by WVU. When you arrive at the tent, give your name, and let the staff know you are a student coming for required testing. You will receive a card with instructions for accessing MyChart to view your test results. If you have issues with accessing MyChart, call the hotline: 866-982-4278.

Community Service Hours – As part of your graduation requirement, you must complete 100 hours of community service. Please remember to document what you have already completed, and plan to start early on completing any additional hours needed, since opportunities are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Important Dates:

Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga – Tuesdays, 7:00am and Wednesdays, 6:30pm, in pavilion behind McCormack Center on BMC campus. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Bring your own yoga equipment and stay at least 10 feet apart.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Volunteers for HSTA – The local HSTA (Health Sciences & Technology Academy) clubs are looking for speakers to present at meetings in November. Presentations can be science or healthcare related. If interested, please contact Kenneth (HSTA Field Site Coordinator): Kenneth.emeni@hsc.wvu.edu for dates/times or additional information.

Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Christa (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) or Michelle (alderm@wvumedicine.org) to sign out a unit for use on rotation.
