Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, Jan. 8-Dec. 30, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Volunteers for HSTA – The local HSTA (Health Sciences & Technology Academy) clubs are looking for speakers to present at meetings in November. Presentations can be science or healthcare related. Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Dr. Audreanna James (audreanna.james@wvumedicine.org). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. Community Service – Remember to check your logged community service hours to be sure you have completed the 100-hour requirement for graduation. If you still need community service hours, contact Eastern Student Services for volunteer opportunities.

Financial Aid Seminar – Wed., Mar. 11th, 9-11:30am, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Lunch will be provided. 30-minute individual counseling sessions with financial advisor available for the afternoon. Please RSVP to Jane Horst (horstj@wvumedicine.org) for both the seminar and to set up an individual session.

MATCH Day – Fri., March 20th, at Purple Iris-Martinsburg. Guests may begin arrival at 11:30am. Official festivities begin with opening of envelopes and lunch at 12pm. As a reminder, be sure that you are registered for both the NRMP and ERAS. You must have participation in both systems for a successful match.

Graduation – Class of 2020 Commencement will be held Fri., May 15th, beginning at 7pm in the Creative Arts Center-Morgantown. Regalia orders have been submitted to the HSC Bookstore. Regalia will arrive at the Bookstore early April. The Bookstore CANNOT accept credit card payments over the phone. You can either pay by check or pay with a Barnes and Noble gift card. GQ Week - February 24-28th. Watch for emails from AAMC to complete this important survey. Bring in proof of completion during GQ Week to Jane Horst in Eastern Student Services, and you will be entered into a daily drawing!

MS3 Class of 2021

Financial Aid Info Session – Tues., Mar. 10th, 3:30-4:30pm, in Eastern HSC Multimedia Classroom. MSIII informational session with Eric Meadows from Financial Aid office in Morgantown to discuss loans and loan repayment obligations. Be sure to notify your preceptors to release you from rotation early so you can attend.

V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Christa (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) or Michelle (alderm@wvumedicine.org) to sign out a unit for use on rotation.
