Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

BMC Tumor Board – Thur., Jan. 16th, 12-1pm, in BMC 8th Floor Classroom. Topic: “Diagnostic Approach to Esophageal Cancer” presented by Dr. Sam Wanko (Hem/Onc) and Dr. Tina Lu Ang-Rabanes (Pathology).

OB/Gyn M & M – Thur., Jan. 16th, 6-8pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Topic: “Amniotic Fluid Embolism” presented by Dr. Jessica Hott, MSIII Kathryn Baker, and MSIII Ching Xie.

Physician Symposium – Fri., Jan. 31st, 12-1pm, in BMC 8th Floor Classroom. Topic: “EMTALA Basics” presented by Dr. Christine Vaglienti – Assistant VP & Senior Litigation Counsel, WVU Health System.

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, Jan. 8-Dec. 30, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Volunteers for HSTA – The local HSTA (Health Sciences & Technology Academy) clubs are looking for speakers to present at meetings in November. Presentations can be science or healthcare related. Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Dr. Audreanna James (audreanna.james@wvumedicine.org). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. MAY COMMENCEMENT DATE UPDATES. The May 2020 Graduation Ceremony will be Friday, May 15 @7pm in the Creative Arts Center. Hooding/Regalia request form due by February 3rd. Graduation Application will open next Tuesday, January 21.

Interviews – Please check in with Eastern Student Services to advise how your interview process is going. We encourage you to share your experiences with us, whether it be an unusual interview question, or you are particularly impressed by a residency program.

Community Service – Remember to check your logged community service hours to be sure you have completed the 100-hour requirement for graduation. If you still need community service hours, you have approximately 7 months to complete the requirement, and we have plenty of volunteer opportunities.

Financial Aid Counseling – Tues., Jan. 28th, at Eastern HSC. Eric Meadows from Financial Aid office in Morgantown will be on-site for one-on-one counseling sessions with MSIV students. Please contact Jane Horst (horstj@wvumedicine.org) to schedule an appointment.

MATCH Note – As a reminder, be sure that you are registered for both the NRMP and ERAS. You must have participation in both systems for a successful match.
