Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

BMC Tumor Board –Thur. Aug. 1st, 12-1pm, in BMC 8th Floor Classroom. Topic: “Hodgkin Lymphoma” presented by Dr. Sam Wanko (Hem/Onc) and Dr. Tiffany Harper (Pathology).

Medical M & M – Fri., Aug. 2nd, 12-1pm, in BMC 8th Floor Classroom. Topic: “Common Hospital Situations with Blood Thinners” presented by Dr. Ryan McCarthy (WVU Internal Med).

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, May 8th-Dec. 18th, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Dr. Audreanna James (audreanna.james@wvumedicine.org). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. Jefferson County African-American Heritage Festival – Sat., Aug. 17th, 10:30am-6:00pm. Volunteers needed to assist with free screenings and offering information. If interested, contact Dana DeJarnett (dana.dejarnett@wvumedicine.org) at BMC Wellness Center.

MS3 Class of 2021

MS1 Tour – Eastern Campus will be hosting approximately 55 students for the MS1 regional campus tour on Fri., Aug. 2nd. Bus will arrive around 9:30am. Tour will start with a brief welcome from the Deans and overview of the campus. Eastern MS3 students will be designated to groups as tour guides for Berkeley Medical Center, so please plan to arrive at Eastern HSC by 9:30am. Lunch will be provided to allow Eastern MS3 students to answer questions and interact with MS1 students. Bus will depart at 1pm.

IT Issues – If you are experiencing issues with anything technology-related (i.e. Citrix, Epic, internet), please notify Eastern Student Services office so an IT support ticket can be submitted on your behalf. Do not go directly to the BMC IT office for assistance, as all support must be tracked through the support ticket system.

Nau Module – Just a reminder, you must complete an IV start on a patient in either BMC’s Same-Day Surgery or the ER. This procedure will be graded by supervising staff. The grade forms to be used are located in your mailboxes in the Student Study Area, so please be sure to stop and pick them up this week.
