Thanksgiving Holiday – Eastern Student Services office will be closed Thur., Nov. 26th, and Fri., Nov. 27th, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Should you have an emergency, please notify the Dean on Call. The office will re-open on Mon., Nov. 30th. We wish you all a safe, happy, and healthy Thanksgiving!!

Community Service Hours – As part of your graduation requirement, you must complete 100 hours of community service. Please remember to document what you have already completed, and plan to start early on completing any additional hours needed, since opportunities are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Flu Shot Information – Please remember that documentation of your flu shot is due by Dec. 1st. You may begin uploading to Castlebranch on Nov. 10th. Contact Eastern Student Services with any questions: 304-596-6312.

Parking Reminder – Please remember that if you are on rotation at BMC and JMC, students should ONLY use the designated employee parking with yellow lines when parking at the hospital.

Important Dates:

Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Wellness Center Virtual Classes – The Wellness Center at BMC is offering a variety of virtual Web-Ex fitness classes free of charge for members, WVU Medicine East staff, and providers. Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Volunteers for HSTA – The local HSTA (Health Sciences & Technology Academy) clubs are looking for speakers to present at meetings in November. Presentations can be science or healthcare related. If interested, please contact Kenneth (HSTA Field Site Coordinator): Kenneth.emeni@hsc.wvu.edu for dates/times or additional information.

Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. Mock Interviews – Still available by appointment, held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is a good opportunity to practice interview with a faculty member virtually and receive feedback on style, lighting, audio, etc. as you prepare for the residency interview season. To schedule a mock interview, contact Jane Horst: horstj@wvumedicine.org.

Interview Space – Limited space is available at Eastern HSC for students who may need a quiet space for their virtual residency interviews. Please use your own equipment (laptop, A/V, ethernet, special lighting). To reserve a space, please contact Christa Schwoerer (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) after Oct. 21.

Flu Shot Documentation – Remember to upload your seasonal flu shot documentation to Castlebranch by Dec. 1st. Records will be checked on that date, and failure to comply with this requirement WILL result in removal from your rotation.

Health Update – Please remember to complete the two health update questions and email to Jane Horst (horstj@wvumedicine.org) on Monday morning prior to beginning your rotation each week.

MS3 Class of 2022

V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Christa (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) or Michelle (alderm@wvumedicine.org) to sign out a unit for use on rotation.

Case Logs – With end of semester approaching, please be sure you have entered ALL required procedures in your E-value case logs prior to each of your clerkship exams.

H&P’s – Students are responsible to follow up with preceptors regarding any outstanding H&P’s. If graded H&P’s are submitted directly to Student Services, you will be notified. Please contact Michelle Alder (alderm@wvumedicine.org) if you need assistance with the follow-up process.
