Important Dates:

Flu Shot Documentation – Deadline for uploading documentation of your current flu shot record into the CastleBranch system is Dec. 1^st. Please be sure to do this, as it is part of compliance for clinical rotations.

Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, May 8^th-Dec. 18^th, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Volunteers for HSTA – The local HSTA (Health Sciences & Technology Academy) clubs are looking for speakers to present at meetings in November. Presentations can be science or healthcare related. Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3^rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Help needed with setup, tear-down, cooking process, and interacting with patrons. For additional information, contact: Dr. Audreanna James (audreanna.james@wvumedicine.org). Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2^nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. Interviews – Please check in with Eastern Student Services to advise how your interview process is going. We encourage you to share your experiences with us, whether it be an unusual interview question, or you are particularly impressed by a residency program.

Community Service – Remember to check your logged community service hours to be sure you have completed the 100-hour requirement for graduation. If you still need community service hours, you have approximately 7 months to complete the requirement, and we have plenty of volunteer opportunities.

MATCH Note – As a reminder, be sure that you are registered for both the NRMP and ERAS. You must have participation in both systems for a successful match.

MS3 Class of 2021

Case Logs – Be sure you are logging your procedures in E-value regularly as you progress through your 3^rd year clerkships. These will be reviewed by clerkship directors at the end of semester. All case logs MUST be complete prior to the final NBME exam; this is a clerkship requirement!

Smiles for Life – Don’t forget to complete your Smiles for Life oral health modules that are required for your specific clerkships. Print the completion certificates and bring them to Student Services for documentation in your files.

V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Christa (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) or Michelle (alderm@wvumedicine.org) to sign out a unit for use on rotation.

Textbooks – Please remember to return your textbooks to Student Services on the day of your exams. We will need to prep them to re-distribute for spring semester.
