Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, May 8th-Dec. 18th, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

11th Annual Freedom’s Run – Sat., Oct. 5th, in Shepherdstown, WV. Volunteer or running participation opportunity. Event features marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and kids’ run. Course will cover Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, C & O Canal, and Antietam. 50-yard line finish at Shepherd University’s Rams Stadium and post-race Oktoberfest party at Bavarian Inn. Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town. 3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am. Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. MS3 Class of 2021

Nau Module – Just a reminder, you must complete an IV start on a patient in either BMC’s Same-Day Surgery or the ER. This procedure will be graded by supervising staff. The grade forms to be used are located in your mailboxes in the Student Study Area, so please be sure to stop and pick them up this week.

Case Logs – Be sure you are logging your procedures in E-value regularly as you progress through your 3rd year clerkships. These will be reviewed by clerkship directors periodically during the semester.

V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Christa (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) or Michelle (alderm@wvumedicine.org) to sign out a unit for use on rotation.

Jacques Module – Reminder that your PEDs LP required simulation taping is scheduled for Tues., Oct. 1st, 4-6pm, in the Eastern HSC PEP rooms with Dr. Ellie Smith. Pre-assignment homework must be completed. Please be sure to advise your preceptors that you will need to be excused from rotation to attend this required session.
