Community Service Hours – As part of your graduation requirement, you must complete 100 hours of community service. Please remember to document what you have already completed, and plan to start early on completing any additional hours needed, since opportunities are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Important Dates:

Peds Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC. Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC. If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga – Tuesdays, 7:00am and Wednesdays, 6:30pm, in pavilion behind McCormack Center on BMC campus. Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness. Bring your own yoga equipment and stay at least 10 feet apart.

Virtual Mini-Med School – Tues., Sept. 22nd, 7pm, via the WVU Medicine East Facebook page. Topic: “Gearing Up for Flu Season During COVID-19” presented by Dr. Matthew Simmons, Infectious Disease-Berkeley Medical Center.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg. To volunteer or for additional information: Cosby Potter-Davis – cosby.davis@comcast.net

Volunteers for HSTA – The local HSTA (Health Sciences & Technology Academy) clubs are looking for speakers to present at meetings in November. Presentations can be science or healthcare related. If interested, please contact Kenneth (HSTA Field Site Coordinator): Kenneth.emeni@hsc.wvu.edu for dates/times or additional information.

Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room. Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity. Health Update – Please remember to complete the two health update questions and email to Jane Horst (horstj@wvumedicine.org) on Monday morning prior to beginning your rotation each week.

ERAS – Program is now open to review and select residencies to apply. Be sure you have uploaded your CV and Personal Statement. MSPE will be added after review and approval process and will be released in October. Most transcripts will be uploaded this week. You must submit payment to release your residency applications. Contact Jane Horst (horstj@wvumedicine.org) if you have questions or need additional information resources on the ERAS program.

MS3 Class of 2022

V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Christa (christa.schwoerer.m@wvumedicine.org) or Michelle (alderm@wvumedicine.org) to sign out a unit for use on rotation.
