Events, discounts highlight Nurses Week 2019
Therapy animals will visit various units during the week.

National Nurses Week is May 6-12 and the theme from the American Nurses Association is “Four Million Reasons to Celebrate,” which reflects the number of nurses nationally.

To highlight the week, WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals is offering nurses discounts (a medical staff ID may be required) at several local businesses and offering a few events related to the week.

There will be a drumming circle on Wednesday, May 8, at 1 p.m. and Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m. behind J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, near The Market at Health Sciences.

The Spiritual Care Department will conduct the “Blessing of the Hands” ceremonies at various units throughout the week. Click here for a schedule.

Also, nursing units have also worked with Volunteer Services to schedule therapy animals to visit units throughout the week.

Included in this year’s Nurses Week celebration is a fun, educational opportuny surrounding WVU Medicine’s bid for its fourth Magnet® designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The designation is for hospitals that have a proven track record of excellence in nursing services.

“Reaching 4 New Heights” is the Magnet® theme. Staff can learn about the effort from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. May 7-10 at the seventh floor bridge to the northeast tower.

The drumming circle is a popular activity during Nurses Week.
