Frank Briggs named VP of WVU Heart and Vascular Institute

Frank Briggs has been named vice president of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute after serving in an interim role for six months.

Briggs will continue serving as WVU Medicine’s vice president and chief quality officer until a replacement is named.

Briggs earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and completed his post-graduate training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, which includes a Masters of Public Health and certificate in health finance and management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Briggs joined WVU Medicine in 2002 as a manager and residency program director in the Department of Pharmacy. He has served on technical expert panels for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which focused on the development of new quality measures. He continues to serve on the National Quality Forum committee on admissions and readmissions and has gained experience in post-acute care through serving on the board of directors at HealthSouth MountainView Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. He is a fellow of the American Society of Pharmacy and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is board certified in healthcare administration.

Vinay Badhwar, MD, executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, says Briggs is an excellent fit for his new role.

“With the rapid growth of our WVU Heart and Vascular Institute across the state and region,” Dr. Badhwar said, “it is essential that we have a strong leadership team to ensure that our patients and providers have seamless access to the outstanding service we have available. We are all very pleased to have Frank join the Heart and Vascular Institute as an established leader of our health system and look forward to his ongoing success and contributions as our institute continues its mission-focused upward trajectory.”
