Global Health Program

Dr. Melanie Fisher has been the Director of the Global Health Program since 2000. Dr. Rebecca Reece is the Associate Director. The GHP oversees global health electives for medical students in nine different countries and affiliated sites. In spring of 2023, 28 medical students will be doing global electives through the GHP. Internal medicine residents in the Global Health Track led by Dr. Josephine Reece also participate in some of these globaelelectives.

The GHP hosts Global Health Week every year with lectures by speakers on important global health issues. This year’s event was held from September 19 to September 23, 2022.

The GHP has been offering a Clinical Tropical Medicine and Traveler’s Health Course to health care professionals for over 27 years. WVU’s course is one of only 9 such courses in the US that is accredited by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
