Lauren Howdershelt named 2018 Outstanding Rural Health Student of the Year
Fourth year medical student Lauren Howdershelt was recently selected as the WV Outstanding Rural Health Student of the Year for 2018. The award recognizes students who have demonstrated commitment to providing care in underserved communities in West Virginia.
Howdershelt was nominated for the award by Treah Haggerty, MD, Dorian Williams, MD, and Heather Hanks from the WVU School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine. She is a student in the Rural Health Program, and is a three-time recipient of the WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health scholarship, and a four-time recipient of the School's full tuition scholarship. She has served as vice president of the Rural Health Interest Group, and was chosen to be the WVU Family Medicine Rural Scholar for the residency class of 2019.
The award will be presented to Howdershelt this Thursday, Oct. 18, at the WV Rural Health Conference at Pipestem Resort State Park.
