Lei appointed to American Association for Cancer Research science policy and government affairs committee
Dr. Ming Lei, a leading expert in biomedical research and policy, has been invited to serve as a member of the science policy and government affairs committee for the American Association for Cancer Research. The appointment, announced by AACR president-elect Dr. Lillian L. Siu, begins immediately and extends through April 2028.
As the senior associate vice president for WVU Health Sciences Research and Graduate Education and vice dean of research for the School of Medicine, Dr. Lei brings years of experience overseeing federal programs that support research capacity building at academic and research institutions.
The SPGA committee plays a key role in shaping evidence-based policies to advance cancer science and advocating for robust funding for medical research. Dr. Lei will work alongside colleagues to provide expert guidance to policymakers and participate in advocacy efforts, including legislative visits to Washington, D.C. and events to educate members of Congress and their staff on issues affecting the cancer community.
With AACR’s 56,000 members worldwide, the committee’s work is pivotal in fostering support for increased funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. The committee also focuses on advancing regulatory science, combating tobacco use and promoting personalized health care for cancer patients.
Dr. Lei’s appointment underscores his expertise and dedication to improving outcomes for cancer patients. His contributions to the SPGA committee will help shape policies and strengthen collaboration to advance AACR’s mission to prevent and cure cancer.
